DesertfestIn the second part of our preview of the Camden based stoner/doom/psyche/prog festival Desertfest 2015 we shall be looking at the last day of the three-day event as metal devotees come to worship on the Sunday.

It’s hard to look past events at Koko where three bands on the bill – bluesy doom stalwarts Acid King, Italian progressive doom legends Ufomammut and Sleep, the planet’s most elaborate Black Sabbath tribute act – hold court. Acid King and Ufomammut both have new records to promote; “Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere” and “Ecate” respectively, whilst Sleep fans may be treated to career highlights or perhaps all of “Holy Mountain” – who knows? What we do know is that it will set every head nodding until all of Camden is in a riff-induced trance.

Elsewhere, at The Underworld, you can witness living history in the form of a headlining set from NWOBHM survivors Angel Witch and also a set by original Sabbath touring buddies Quartz (formed in 1974!!). Sandwiched in-between are relative new-comers Cancer, British death metal pioneers who have been going a mere 27 years, the whippersnappers!

If you’re in the mood for a cheekier vintage of metal then why not check out smart scouse crossover kings SSS at The Black Heart who have, amongst others, promising new doom mongers Wytch Hazel and the startling, progressive Eyes of Solitude in support.

As if that wasn’t enough, over at The Purple Turtle you have a bill that includes feisty power trio XII Boar plus a headline set from Dartmoor-based spookmeisters The Wounded Kings…. stay on the road!*

We understand that Sunday is now a sell-out, so enjoy it if you have tickets, arrive early to catch all the great support acts, and if you can’t be there then fear not as we shall try to bring you a sense of the whole metal-tastic extravaganza in our live reports.

Full line-up details and all current ticket info can be found on the Desertfest website.
See you in Camden!

* It’s from the movie ‘An American Werewolf in London’ – if you didn’t know that then see me after class.
