Black Stone Cherry Livin Live DVD cover (hr)Black Stone Cherry; a Kentucky rock outfit that thrives on stage, in the raw and raucous live environment. A band that you cannot fully appreciate until you have witnessed them in their natural setting.

That’s how we here at TINAS feel about Black Stone Cherry. Yes we’re fans, so we may be biaised… but we really like quality live music, and we really, really, like it when you can bring live music into the comfort of your own living room… in the form of a “Live DVD”.

Step forward BSC with their “Thank You: Livin’ Live” DVD, recorded at Birmingham Arena in October 2014. Is it going to be as huge and memorable as the likes of Iron Maiden’s “Rock In Rio”, Metallica’s “Live Shit…” or a personal favourite of Queensryche “Operation Livecrime”? Probably not; but it’s a damn fine slab of energy fuelled rock, from our favourite Kentucky quartet.

Serving as a perfect pre-cursor to the forthcoming “Carnival Of Madness” tour this DVD is worth a punt for BSC fans new and old. It’s often tricky for live show footage to really capture the atmosphere and environment, but with this, BSC have managed just that… you can almost feel the heat. The electricity resonates throughout, from the hyped up Birmingham crowd to the clearly exuberant Chris Robertson, feeding from the energy of the Birmingham masses. This DVD fully immerses you into the ‘Magic Mountain’ experience.

Ultimately, the gig is spot on, as you would expect. No band in their right mind would put out a DVD of a show that wasn’t top notch, and for those of us that were there on that occasion, we already know it was the dog’s danglies. Poignant at times; with a number of nods to the late Jack Bruce (Cream), who passed away a day or so before this show was recorded. Also humble, with both guitarist Ben Wells and Chris Robertson telling of the BSC roots. Progressing from 200 capacity rooms to 8,000 seater arenas… Black Stone Cherry appreciate the fans, they don’t take anything for granted, but most of all, they are having one hell of a good time… and whatsmore, it’s infectious.

So; we love Black Stone Cherry, this DVD is from a cracking live show, and it’s high octane rock and roll at it’s best… Kentucky style. I’m no cinematic expert, but it’s shot and put together well, and sucks you in as if you were there… What more could you want?
