Morgue Orgy - The Last Man On EarthIf there is one thing that can be said of Birmingham’s Morgue Orgy it’s that they don’t take themselves all too seriously. The somewhat comedic moniker is evidence enough (and the now infamous dildos), cemented further by jesting song titles of the likes of ‘The Last Of The Summer’s Wine’ and ‘It Lurks Beneath!!!’, which also showcase a love for horror films.

Where other bands may hide behind such a zany humour as a shield from their poor ability, Morgue Orgy fortunately back their quirkiness up with ferocious yet still melodic and near accessible breed of death metal. A (easy but apt) comparison would be to The Black Dahlia Murder’s sense of memorable song writing married with brutality, as well as their dynamic range of guttural to higher pitched growled vocals. Not that these guys don’t have their own character and ideas, far from it.

Album opener ‘They Came From Outer Space’ for example shows some tech metal guitar licks in places whilst elsewhere sounding both ferocious and even part classic video game soundtrack, in the best possible way.

For a debut full length, “The Last Man On Earth” has some phenomenal chops; brimming with catchy songs of tuneful yet muscular death metal with a their own personality stamped all over. Of course it is early days but this may have just made Morgue Orgy one of the most exciting prospects in UK’s extreme quarters.

Best of all “The Last Man On Earth” is free to download off their official website. You’d be a fool to miss it.
