I have to take a moment here and praise Andy Copping. By far one of the best booking decisions he has made when it comes to Download Festival is the continued booking of Bowling For Soup, yes that’s right…Bowling For Soup.
I realise they can be a polarizing band and many people don’t like them, but equally a lot of people really, really do like them. Every time they are booked to play the main stage at Download, they always pull one of the biggest crowds of the weekend, and this year was no exception.
Now I admit, Bowling For Soup are a band I don’t really listen to on record, but always make a conscious effort to go and see them live, because they are ludicrously entertaining and always a highlight of the weekend. They have songs that everyone knows the words to, they have some of the best banter in the business and they just know how to have a good time. When the sun is shining and you have a beer and your mates, what more could you ask for?
It’s been said by many of friends and colleagues that Bowling For Soup should be the Download house band that plays every year and I 100% back that statement. Give them 45 minutes to an hour and just watch them cause a riot!
