Nekromantheon - Rise, Vulcan SpectreThis settles it. I’ve GOT to move to Norway! So many good things are coming out of Norway and Nekromantheon is another one. “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” is just sick! January 13th is going to be a banner day! That’s the day “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” is released upon the general populous, Nekromantheon‘s second full length album and their first for Indie Recordings. I hope they are ready!

The album opens with ‘Cast Down to the Void’. It’s a frenetic feast for the ears. Nekromantheon offers listeners old school circle pit madness in the vein of Testament, Sacrifice, Kreator and Slayer. Arild Myern Torp‘s guitar playing channels Paganini. He’s crazy fast. With ‘Blood Wisdom,’ he’s augmented by the extreme prowess of Christian Holm. He’s easily the best drummer on the planet. He’s a monstrous beast. Christian is the Energizer Bunny on freaking 11!

This Norwegian trio creates such a wall of music it’s unbelievable. They are a tight unity, every note flows and weaves through each other like a herd of stampeding wild horses across the plains; beautiful to behold yet deadly if you slip and fall. You will be trampled. ‘Embrace the Oracle’ and ‘Coven of the Minotaur’ are proof positive of this. Arild‘s guitar work places him squarely as one of the best guitar players on the scene today. How Nekromantheon aren’t the biggest most awesome band outside my living room is a complete mystery?

The title track and ‘Twelve Depths of Hades’ are choice. I think I gave myself a heart attack flailing around the living room. The tracks make you happy in a crazed metal head thrash monger type of way. Christian is just a crazy beast on drums. The man is amazing. You listen to his playing and wonder how the hell he does that.

“Rise, Vulcan Spectre” is just gobsmackingly amazing. Sindre, Arild, and Christian are an old style Doc Martin to the side of the head. Song after song after song just makes the Evil DJ in my brain happy. At 31 minutes, “Rise, Vulcan Spectre” leaves you breathless, tired, and wanting more. So you just listen to it again and again and again. If you buy nothing else this year, pick this up and see Nekromantheon when they come to your town!
