Team TINAS are about to hit Damnation Festival 2011 and we have put together three previews to give you a flavour of what to expect. We’ve picked bands for you from all three of the stages – Terrorizer Stage, Jägermeister Stage and Zero Tolerance Stage – covering as many different genres as we can, not to mention a few of our personal favourites!

Xerath

Xerath

British heavyweights Xerath is the first band to begin the chaos on the Jägermeister Stage at 2-2.30pm. The band formed in 2007 and has given the metal world releases debut album “I” and this year’s equally thunderous sophomore release “II”, leaving us salivating at the prospect of their much-anticipated set. With their mammoth combination of death & progressive metal with symphonic elements, it is the ideal way to kick off the Jägermeister Stage at Damnation Festival 2011.

Illuminatus are an interesting bunch, their music has been described as “melodic, atmospheric, powerful”. Hailing from Nottingham and with their second full-length release “Glasnost” under their belts, they have established themselves as the up-and-coming band of 2011. With plenty of touring experience, appearances at Sonisphere and Download festivals and many radio appearances, their set will be one not to be missed, they’ll be on stage at 3.30-4pm!

Bring your drinking horns &  get ready to groove to the sounds of Viking metal pumping through the speakers? Well, get your black and red face paint, leather and fur gear together because TINAS favourites and  battle metal titans Turisas are set to raise hell … and beers! Losing bassist Hannes “Hanu” Horma and accordionist Netta Skog not long after releasing  “Stand Up And Fight” didn’t stop the march, they were able to fill the empty spots quickly and get back to what they do best, unleashing their battle cries onstage. Expect to see a war zone when Turisas go on stage at 4.30-5.10pm.

Evile

Evile

Dusk will have taken over the skies for the thrash metal force that is Evile (5.40-6.20pm). Another of the  Team TINAS favourites and most certainly a set not to missed! Respected by the British metal scene, receiving rave reviews for their appearances at Hammerfest and Sonisphere, fans paying tribute to fallen bassist Mike Alexander without fail every year and three amazing albums under their belt, including the formidable recent release “Five Serpent’s Teeth”, there’s no stopping Evile from showing how it’s done in modern metal. If you miss their set, TINAS will have nothing to say but …. SHAME ON YOU!

Swedish stoner metal band Grand Magus impressed the British metalheads when they supported Arch Enemy last year and again at this year’s Hammerfest. It will be a pleasure to once again journey on a heavy and, somewhat relaxing road trip with Grand Magus. The impressive “Hammer Of The North” was unleashed unto the metal world not too long ago to rave reviews. We urge everyone to experience their performance, especially those for whom it will be the first time, you won’t be disappointed. This is set for 6.50-7.30pm and Team TINAS certainly can’t wait to witness all over again!

Chthonic

Chthonic

As the day falls into darkness over the Terrorizer Stage, rising Taiwanese metal warriors Chthonic are ready to set fire to the stage (6.00-6.40pm). Fresh from their appearances at Hammerfest and Download Festival, and with the release of their massive new album “Takasago Army”, they’re once again set on a mission to entertain their British audiences with their teachings of ancient history and mythology, set in a modern soundscape with crunching symphonic, black and death metal influences.

Now, when it comes to Poland and metal, you immediately think of the mighty kings Vader and Behemoth. Well, there is another monster band that is considered to be one of the most widely respected technical death metal acts. Their name is Decapitated, but of course, you already knew that, didn’t you… and you already have the Polish brutalisers’ new record “Carnival Is Forever” right? Well, you damn well should have it, as Team TINAS thinks it is a top-notch face ripper. We are all in for a treat between 8.20-9.20pm, as their Damnation set is a UK exclusive, Decapitated will unleash their fury upon the crowd like no other in this little carnival of mayhem.

This is a mere taster of the devilish delights on offer at this year’s Damnation Festival, we will unveil more maggot infested morsels tomorrow, in the meantime head over to the Official Damnation Festival Website for more information and to buy your damn tickets!
