Godsized- The Phoney Tough & The Crazy Brave EP2010 appears to be a good year for Godsized, appearances at the Download Festival, the Bulldog Bash and an upcoming appearance at Mammothfest in September and a headline slot on the King Billy stage at The Big Finger Festival in October. Not to mention countless headlines shows up and down the UK have added to the buzz surrounding Godsized.

Following the success of their first self-released EP, “Brothers In Arms”, Godsized have returned to the studio again with producer Mark Mynett, formerly of Kill II This, to record their second EP, “The Phoney Tough & The Crazy Brave”. The EP will be released and celebrated with a headline show at London’s 100 Club on Friday 17th September.

The EP opens up with the title track ‘The Phoney Tough & The Crazy Brave’; the pounding drum solo intro leads into the sludgy downbeat riffs.  There is a real hook to the guitar riffs that you cannot help being seduced by. Glenn Korner’s vocals are on top form again, clear in the mix and as powerful as ever! The breakdown in the middle of the track is seriously heavy and the guitar solos that follow are stunning. It is instantly clear that the band have matured in their song writing, “Brothers In Arms” is a great EP packed with huge tracks but “The Phoney Tough & The Crazy Brave” takes it to the next level.

Godsized‘So I’m Told’ is heavy and by heavy I mean blue whale heavy, it’s a monster! The slow, heavy and powerful start to the track belies the demon that is lurking just beneath the surface. As the verses and choruses progress there are tiny hints of what is to come. About 3 minutes into the track the demon is unleashed, pounding drums, stunning leads and jagged guitars! The production is superb; each element of the track is clearly audible but sits perfectly with each other to create an astonishing noise!

We were lucky enough to hear ‘Bleed On The Inside’ live a couple of months ago, so we already knew it was a behemoth of a track… but would it carry the live power and dynamism to the recording! The answer to this is a simple HELL YEAH!!! This track is a clear demonstration of the band’s maturing song writing skills. It starts as it means to go on, heavy and powerful, the staccato verse riffs force you head to band whether you want to or not but you will want to! Occasionally the pace drops to show a more subtle side to the bands but that is all blasted away by the bridge half way through the track. The lead breaks from both Glenn Korner and Neil Fish are immense; Gav Kerrigan’s bass work is exceptional, and Effon’s drumming is spectacular. These boys have serious talent…

“The Phoney Tough & The Crazy Brave” is what the latest Black Label Society album should have sounded like! There are also strong rumours that Godsized will be hitting the studio again in the near future to record their debut album. If these rumours are true then we already have a contender for the Top 10 of 2011…
